Firefighters responded to a minor house fire on Winter Avenue in the east end of St.John’s this morning. The St. John’s Regional Fire Department says the fire was contained to a mattress in an upstairs bedroom. Firefighters hauled the mattress out on the lawn and quickly extinguished the flames. The elderly occupant of the home was not injured.
