There’s still no deal, but the province and the capital city appear to be close to an agreement on 911.

Davis met with St. John’s Mayor Dennis O’Keefe late yesterday in an effort to reach a compromise before March 1. Public Safety Minister Judy Manning did not participate.

Davis says the first choice in a 911 provider for the Avalon has always been the St. John’s Regional Fire Department and he still sees that as the best scenario, given the experience and technology already on hand.

By thinking outside the box in a casual conversation, O’Keefe believes an agreement will be reached that is satisfactory to all ensuring a high quality emergency response to the entire Avalon.
